A list of things to avoid:

1.            Flea treatments until at least 6 months to avoid skin problem.

2.            1 tablespoon of regular yogurt with breakfast for 4 weeks after going to new home.  This will help the tummy keep good bacteria from the stress of a new environment. MUST be regular! AVOID sugar-free, lowfat, and etc.

3.            Do not over bath to avoid dry skin

4.            Do not leave puppy outside alone no matter what! Even in a puppy play pen.  Hawks, eagles, and ect will think they are rodents.  If you have a fence backyard please wait until the dog is full grown before letting him/her outside alone.

5.            Brush 2-3 times a week

6.            Avoid corn in dog foods.  You get what you pay for.  They will eat more of the cheaper dog food and less of the expensive dog food, so in the end it equals out.

7.            Do not take the puppy to dog parks, stores (petsmart), and any other place until the dog has all 3 shots.  Do not leave any other dogs around the puppy unless the puppy is finished with the first 3 shots. VERY IMPORTANT

8.            Feed 2-3 times a day (1 cup) of food.

9.            Do not leave water alone with the puppy.  They will play in it and get wet.  If the puppy stays wet for too long it will develop yeast.  Water should be given after playing, eating, and sleeping.

10.          Find a good groomer if you want to westie look. Most good groomers are at the vet’s office.

HELPFUL NOTES:

Potty training:  Besttimes to take the puppy outside are after playing, after eating or drinking, and sleeping, after getting home from work, and/or when you see the puppysniffing area.  It may take up to 25 minsor so for the puppy to potty outside. Just be calm.  Pet the puppy afterhe or she is done using the potty. ********

*****It is best totake the puppy to the same spot every time it goes outside.  The smell will trigger is senses.

Make sure you buy a crate big enough for the puppy to standand turn around, BUT small enough for the puppy not to potty in the cage.  IF you buy too big of a crate he/she willpotty on one side and sleep on the other side. If the puppy is forced to sitting in the mess, he/she will hold itselfuntil it is let out.  This is great forpeople working.  Once you get home letthe puppy go outside ASAP. Do not feed, water, and play. Immediately takeoutside.
